Montgomery High School’s Debate Club is something more people should strongly consider joining. Debate Club meets each Monday at lunch to discuss current events as well as one day after school each week, which switches between Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in room 47. The Club Supervisor is Ms. Duke. During our after school meetings, two groups of students debate against each other on a topic chosen by either the teacher or one of the club officials. Due to COVID, this year there are online tournaments through Zoom. Tournaments are a fun way to show off your skills and compete, but they are optional. No prior debate experience is necessary to join the club. Debate teaches you the important life skill of how to speak in front of people and it looks great on college applications. Debate is also just a fun overall experience because you get to talk about different topics as well as hearing an opposing viewpoint on many different issues. It is not too late to join, and the club meets year round. If any of these things interest you, talk to the president of the club, Amit, or the Coach, Ms. Duke, about joining the Debate Club.
