BROWN SKIN GIRL By Elle O.

Writer's picture: Munta MuradMunta Murad

Good Day Viks! Take a look at Elle's poem titled BROWN SKIN GIRL:

Take me way back

Take me back into the sea

Feel my blood coursing through the trees

Feel my heartbeat

A thousand miles free

Wear my color

Wear my color, wear it like Rosalía

Taste the flavor

So historic

Built on oppression for decades

Take me way back to my homeland

Where I can be me

Never felt more alone

More than you’ll ever know

Looking in the mirror, I am a brown skinned girl

I’ve never been hated so much before

Just because I am a brown skinned girl

I am who I am

And I’ll never change myself for the world

I just hope that one day

I can be a person, just a brown skin girl

Black hair, brown eyes

I’d never trade it for comfort

I am a brown skin girl

I wear my body with pride

~like a Brown Skin Girl
