This past week, Link Crew has gone through the freshmen guided study classrooms to give a short presentation about how to prepare for finals. Link Crew is an organization to help freshmen make the jump from middle school to high school. This list was made by Link Crew Leaders, who are all juniors and seniors, who all consider these to be the top 5 tips of advice for studying for finals.
Don't be afraid to ask for help. Your friends, teachers, and classmates are some of your best resources for studying. Form study groups with your friends and classmates. Be sure to ask your teacher lots of questions, such as what kind of final you're going to be taking. Don't waste time studying for a big test if you're actually doing a project.
Know your learning style. Ask yourself how you retain information best. School teaches you that there is only one learning style, but that isn't true. Try visual and audible listening. Other good kinds of learning are active recall, using flashcards, using problems, and much more.
Don't procrastinate. You are not going to retain any information if you only study the night before. Make a study schedule that you find helpful and work on time management. This way you will be able to balance your studies, your social life, and other hobbies.
Keep all your schoolwork organized. It can be easy to become overwhelmed and flustered in a messy environment. One way to stay organized is to keep all your things for one subject in one spot. Have a binder or folder for each subject, and use tabs or folders to keep your homework, notes, and tests all in one spot.
Prioritize yourself and your mental health. Grades and finals are important, but they aren't everything. Take breaks during your studies so as to not stress yourself out. The night before your finals, make sure to get a good night's sleep. And have a healthy breakfast the morning of your finals. Another good idea would be to bring a water bottle with you on the day of your tests. Staying hydrated is important to perform at your best mentally.
These are not the only study tips, but these are Link Crew's top 5. Finals can be very stressful, but studying and putting in the time can make you feel better. Good luck Vikings!
